Which Solar Deck Lights Are Good For Your Garden?

Solar deck lights can be placed on your deck or patio to illuminate it at night. These lights may not provide as much light as traditional deck lights, however they have the added advantage of being able to generate and store their own electricity, which can save you money on your energy bills.

The only major drawback to solar deck lighting when compared with other solar outdoor lights, is that the deck lights have the solar panel attached directly to the light itself, which can severely limit your options for placement due to the need to having to be maximally exposed to the sun.

There are many different options available for solar deck lights, including overhead lights, post lights, and hanging lamps. Another popular type of solar deck lighting is the smaller ground level lights which can help illuminate stairs or a path as well. With a little research, you should be able to find a solar deck light to fit your needs.

Below is a list of some of the more popular brands and solar deck lights available on the market today. The products in this list are all decent lights, depending on your needs and budget, and are recommended over many of the other inferior products you might find out there.

Moonrays by Coleman Cable

moonraysMoonrays is a popular line of plastic solar powered lights that is manufactured by Coleman Cable. The main advantage of the Moonrays line lies in the price of the lights. All of the Moonrays products are made with durable plastic which makes them much cheaper than other lights that are made of metal or glass.

However, don’t expect these lights to put out a huge amount of life or to have a very long life, as the plastic makes them break much easier and overall not nearly as durable as other sturdier models. Nonetheless, most Moonrays lights cost under $15, so replacing them isn’t much of an issue when and if they get damaged or stop functioning properly.

Moonrays 95027 and 95028 Mini Deck Light

The Moonrays 95027 and Moonrays 95028 Mini Deck Lights come in two different shapes: round and rectangle, and there is virtually no difference between the two. Both lights emit a decent amount of light given their extremely cheap price: you should be able to purchase either one for less than $10. These lights are designed to be attached to a post on your deck, and will turn themselves on automatically when it gets dark. The lights are powered by one rechargeable AA battery which is included with the lights.

Moonrays Solar Powered Plastic Post Cap Lamp Light

solar deck lights10The Moonrays 91248 is another very popular type of solar deck lighting from Coleman Cable. These lights are designed to be placed directly on a fence post or any other post or railing. There are thousands of different post cap lights available that can be used on your deck; however the main advantage of the Moonrays line - again - is in their price.

The Moonrays post cap lights can usually be purchased for around $25, which makes them about two thirds of the price of most other solar post cap lights.

Nonetheless, it’s important to keep in mind that these lights are still made of plastic, which makes them not nearly as durable, but much cheaper to replace.

Overall, if you’re looking for solar lights to place on a post on your deck, garden, or fence, then you can’t go wrong with the Moonrays line. These solar post cap lights also come in a variety of styles and colors, so you can be almost guaranteed that you’ll find one to suit your specific tastes and needs.

Dock Edge Solar Dock & Deck Light

solar deck lightsDock Edge manufactures a fine line of solar lights that are designed for use on a deck or boat dock.

The Dock Edge Solar Dock & Deck Light is normally placed on the ground to illuminate a deck or path. These lights are very durable and weather resistant, which also makes them ideal for use on a boat dock, as they will be able to withstand most any weather that they might encounter.

These lights normally cost between $25 and $40 which makes them slightly more expensive than other models, but still nowhere near the top of the line in terms of price or quality. These are generally all-around great lights, which will turn themselves on automatically at night, and usually have more than enough charge to illuminate your deck for the entire night.
